Introduction: Aspen Medical has an exciting opportunity for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers to partner with us in providing temporary contracted medical services to Military Treatment Facilities throughout the United States. Today’s posting will place you at the primary location of the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. Core Duties:
Hours of Performance: The performance hours of the MTF are as follows: The MTF is a 24/7 facility therefore the hours of performance shall be as set forth by the applicable Department Chief or his/her designated Government representative. The contractor shall provide services for average work week of 40 hours per week as scheduled, Sunday through Saturday including Weekends, Federal holidays and Training holidays. Normal shifts will be up to twelve (12) hour shifts including nights and/or weekends. The shifts listed below are not all inclusive and may be altered to accommodate changing missions. Additional shifts may be added or changed with the agreement of the Contractor and the COR to include less than eight (8) hours per shift to fill or decrease a short-term gap. An unpaid meal break will be provided of no less than 30 minutes and up to 1 hour during the shift as determined by the clinic. The above timeframes are subject to change by mutual agreement of the Contracting Officer and the Contractor. The Contractor shall only be paid for actual hours worked. Compensatory time (comp time) is not authorized. Overage hours (overtime) is authorized and invoiced separately.

Qualifications:
- Degree/Education: Graduate from an academic program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the AMA
- Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) or the American Registry of Clinical Radiography Technologist in the specialty identified in the TO
- Experience: One year of experience as a radiologic technologist or in the specialty area identified in the TO within the last two (2) years
- Licensure: None
Core Duties:
- Perform routine diagnostic radiological procedures/services as appropriate to the TO
- Adhere to radiation safety policies and procedures in accordance with Radiology Department policies and procedures
- Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading according to MTF protocol
- Correctly position the patient for the examination and make technical adjustments necessary for the required examination. Determine if any special patient preparation is required
- Process digital images and submit for interpretation by radiologists
- Ensure patients are appropriately prepared for procedures, to include obtaining consent prior to beginning any examination
- Perform selected radiology examinations and procedures under the supervision of a radiologist
- Responsible for evaluating image quality, making initial image observations and forwarding those observations to the supervising radiologist
- Adapt examination protocols to improve diagnostic quality
- Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring that each patient receives quality care while in the radiology department or clinic
- Document all procedures and maintain records in accordance with MTF policy
- As directed, perform system calibrations and quality control tasks according to the manufacturer and MTF policy. Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated Government personnel of outlying values
- Initiate repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions by notifying designated Government personnel. Report problems to the Biomedical Repair Section and record the problem condition in the trouble call logbook
- Observe and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have direct bearing on the patient's condition as a result of adverse reaction to contrast media and inform the radiologist of any condition requiring his/her attention. Recognize the need for and institute the necessary emergency measures for situations where a person requires resuscitation procedures due to cardiac or respiratory arrest
- Perform a wide variety of complex ultrasound examinations of human subjects to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease or injury
- Receive and review request from physicians and other health care providers for ultrasound examination of patients
- Determine the condition of issues, procedures, and equipment necessary to best meet the need of individual cases
- Explain procedures and actions to allay fears and secure maximum cooperation
- If unanticipated condition or anomalies are discovered, extend and modify procedures to ensure full and accurate information as to finding and patient condition
- Observes and reports patient responses to instructions, movement, touch, etc, if significant
- Monitor patient conditions during examination and, if necessary, render emergency aid and summon for assistance
- Assist in performance of invasive procedures such as biopsies, aspirations, nephrostomies and amniocentesis
- Locates disease site, identify position and functioning or response of organs, etc
- Advises physician of any problems, conditions, or anomalies found during or as a result of the procedure
- Explains procedures, capabilities, techniques, equipment, concepts and principles of the methodology of ultrasound and its use and limitations as a diagnostic tool
- Performs operator level maintenance and care of equipment
- Prepare and replace imaging material
