JOB AD: Physician Flight Surgeon

Introduction:  Aspen Medical has an exciting opportunity for Flight Surgeon Physicians to partner with us in providing temporary contracted medical services to Military Treatment Facilities throughout the United States. Today’s posting will place you at the primary location of the Defense Language Institute-English Language Center (DLIELC). Hospital: 637th International Support Squadron
Location: United States, Joint Base San Antonio, Lackland, Texas

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.)
  • Internship/Residency: Successful completion of an internship and residency program in Aerospace Medicine highly desired. Residency in Family, Occupational or General Preventive Medicine may be considered if experience requirements are met
  • Certification: Board certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) in Aerospace Medicine is strongly preferred. Board certification in Family, Occupational, or General Preventive Medicine may be accepted if experience requirements are met.
  • Certification in addition to Basic Life Support: Must possess current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and certification must remain valid throughout the life of this contract. Must have graduated from service specific aerospace medicine basic course and certified as a USAF, USA or USN/USMC senior or chief flight surgeon or equivalent. FAA or civilian flight medicine training will NOT suffice
  • Experience:
    • Must have within the past five (5) years practiced as a credentialled USAF, USA, USN or USMC Aerospace Medicine Specialist or Flight Surgeon
    • Must have within the past three (3) years held clinical privileges in flight medicine, aerospace medicine or occupational medicine
    • Must meet clinical competency requirements to earn clinical privileges in Aerospace Medicine as specified in the Service-specific credentialing instructions
  • Licensure: The Flight Surgeon shall possess a valid, full, active, unrestricted medical license in good standing from any U.S. jurisdiction. There shall not be any history of adverse actions against the applicant in the last ten (10) years.
  • Skills and Knowledge Requirements: The applicant must have knowledge of current regulations including: AFI 48-101, DAFMAN 48-123, DAFMAN 48-149, AFI 36-2905, AFI 48-133, DoD 6130.03

General Description of Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of this contract is to accomplish medical evaluation and adjudication of medical requirements and waivers specifically related to accessions waivers, medical examinations, health assessments, physical evaluation, fitness for duty and disability determinations on various types of cases, and other similar physical medical cases submitted to DLIELC for determination and action. This includes assistance in formulation of responses and dispositions to individual cases as well as making recommendations for development of policies that guide the decisions which are ultimately made by the SG director. Contracted personnel may provide strategic direction project planning and scheduling development and general administrative support functions which may include tasking support functions, consultation functions, meeting attendance, briefing development and support and other such duties as directed within the scope of the contract.

  • Hours of Performance: Duty hours will vary by position and location; however, typical duty hours are scheduled between 0730 -1630, Monday through Friday. Hours are subject to change and may include nights and weekends
